Description
The Red-tailed Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii) is native to a wide variety of habitats including eucalypt woodlands, and occurs mostly in the drier areas of northern Australia. The female, shown here, has yellow spots on the cheeks and chest and yellow and orange tail stripes, whereas the male has two red panels in the tail feathers. A male Red-tailed Black Cockatoo was the mascot for the Commonwealth Games which were held in Melbourne in 2006.
